3 Year old Preschool Class

3 Year old Preschool Class

In the Three Year Old classes, the main goal is to help each child gain independence and confidence. Throughout the year the children become more social and peer interactions take on a new importance. Basic preschool skills are developed through play, art, finger plays, songs, stories, language, math, science and motor activities.

4 Year old Preschool Class

The majority of the Fours will be attending Kindergarten the following year, and an important goal of this class is kindergarten readiness. Pre-reading skills are enhanced throughout the curriculum and include The Letter of the Week and  Ready to Write. Math and science skills are practiced  with hands-on activities that encourage observation and discovery. Equally important is the child’s social and emotional growth. The preschool environment, the activities and the modeling by the teachers encourage the children to care for one another and become a successful member of a group.

Junior Kindergarten

The Junior Kindergarten program is for the young Five Year Olds especially those with late spring and summer birthdays. The curriculum is based on age-appropriate experiences which will allow the child to grow emotionally, socially, physically and mentally. This program uses many of the curriculum concepts of the Fours but differs in several ways. It addresses the specific needs, attention span and motor abilities of the young Fives. The content area of the themes and units is further enhanced. Manipulative materials and more paper pencil tasks will be used in introducing the alphabet and basic number concepts.

The January Threes

This class  is offered for young children just turning three by January 1st. Some young Threes really benefit from a small class to introduce them to the social aspects of school. Many of them are very interested in taking part in child-centered activities. Also, some children may have been eligible for the Threes in September, but for varying reasons, did not begin school.

The focus of the class is on social skills, separation and transitions, sharing, interactions with peers and the teacher. Age appropriate language development and gross motor activities will also be an integral part of the curriculum. The following fall when classes resume, these children will be very ready to enter the regular Three Year Old Class.
